Fiber Bioengineering Lab
Fiber Bioengineering Lab was established over 50 million external funding support from The Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Commission, Hong Kong Research Grant Council, leading & innovative multinational companies in Hong Kong, and strong support from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University via ASD/Niche Area funding schemes.
Mission
To foster and develop all aspects of science and technology in bioengineering of materials and textiles, which is the integration of physical, chemical, mathematical, and computational sciences and engineering principles to study the relationship between textile and human biology, medicine, behaviour and health for promoting a healthy lifestyle enabling protection, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, consequently improve human health.
Objectives:
- To advance fundamental concepts and create knowledge from the molecular level to the body-clothing systems;
- To create and develop innovative materials, devices and apparel products;
- To provide research and development infrastructure for fiber biotechnology;
- To develop novel nano scale materials, new processing technologies and products for biofunctional textiles and apparel;
- To promote multidisciplinary research collaboration;
- To disseminate knowledge and technical-know-how to industry and transfer technology innovations to companies;
- To disseminate knowledge to human population around the world and promote the concept of healthy lifestyle using biofunctional materials and textiles;
- To provide knowledge and education to students and technical people of companies.
